Capital Improvement Projects

T Avenue Corridor Improvements
Status: Under Construction
Improvements include construction of two lanes of a four-lane boulevard of NW Douglas Pkwy and T Avenue adjacent to the future Public Safety Building site as well as an HMA overlay from the south side of the Public Safety site to the south side of Hickman Road.
Project quantities: 190,000 CY of grading, 47,000 SY of subgrade preparation, 400 tons of cement treated subgrade, 5,400 CY of 6" modified subbase, 10,500 SY of 9" PCC pavement, 1,500 SY of 8" temporary PCC or HMA pavement, 6,100 tons of HMA pavement HT, 2,800 SY of PCC shared use path, 500 SY of 4" or 6" PCC sidewalk, 4,700 tons of granular surfacing, 9,200 LF of water main, 6,800 LF of sanitary sewer, 7,200 LF of storm sewer, 72 EA of intakes or manholes, 1 reinforced box culvert, traffic signalization, 10,300 LF of 2" conduit, 19,000 LF of fiber optic cable, 360 STA of pavement marking, signing, erosion control, surface restoration and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

Alice's Road Improvements
Status: under construction
This phase includes reconstruction of Alice’s Road between NE Horizon Drive and NE Dellwood Drive to increase roadway capacity. It will be 5-lane roadway section with two lanes in each direction and a center left turn lane/median. The full scope of the reconstruction efforts on Alice’s Road extends over a mile north to the Meredith Drive intersection. As a result, future improvements along the corridor will be phased into multiple projects to be completed over the next several construction seasons. University Avenue Extension: Phase 1
Status:
The City of Waukee is planning enhancements to University Avenue that will close the current gap and improve several roads that intersect with University. Find more details and renderings of the full project on the University Ave Extension page.

Prairie Rose Trail
Status: Under Construction
The trail will extend from the Raccoon River Valley Trail along Hickman Road to the newly constructed pond on the north side of NW Douglas Parkway within proposed greenbelt owned by the City of Waukee. The project includes grading, PCC trail paving, storm sewer two prefabricated bridges, pavement markings, signing and associated work.

There are no major capital projects for our park system this year. In 2025, we completed two new neighborhood parks in Painted Woods West and the Spring Crest.
3rd Street Elevated Storage Tank Replacement
Status: in progress
The new water tower will replace the City’s current 500,000 gallon water tower to expand water storage capacity. The water tower is under construction near 6th Street and University and will hold 2,500,000 gallons.

Bluestem Trunk Sewer Phase 2
Status: Under Construction
Phase 2 includes 3,500 linear feet of 8-inch through 12-inch diameter sanitary sewer main from the Timberline Campground entrance to Lift Station No. 14 on L.A. Grant Parkway. The project includes decommissioning LS No. 14.

Transite Water Main Replacement Phase 4
Status: Complete
The existing 4” water main water main will be replaced along Gray Avenue and Christopher Avenue from 1st Street to 3rd Street. The existing 6” water main will be replaced along 1st Street from Northview Drive to Corene Avenue. The new 8” water mains will improve pressure and increase fire protection.
