Trick or Treating

Waukee City Council approved moving trick or treating in Waukee to October 31 in 2025. That will be the new designated date for years to come. Kids in the Waukee community will put on their costumes and go door-to-door from 6-8 p.m. on October 31, rain, snow or clear skies.

Halloween History

Note that in prior years, Waukee along with many other metro communities held trick-or-treating on October 30 as part of the Des Moines metro tradition called Beggars' Night. After hearing from many residents, several communities put out a survey in late 2024 to get feedback on the preferred night for trick-or-treating fun. More than 1,200 people responded to Waukee's survey. Results showed a strong preference for holding trick or treating on Halloween night. Similar surveys distributed by several other metro communities found the same preferences.
