Snow Emergency Parking Ban

If snow is forecast for Waukee, the Public Works Department will implement the City's snow ordinance (Waukee Municipal Code, Chapter 68.14) and emergency parking ban. During this time, parking on public streets is not allowed. The ban will last the duration of the snow or ice storm and the 48-hour period following the end of the weather event or other time designated by the Public Works Department. Removing vehicles from streets allows crews to efficiently and safely work to clear streets of snow; it also allows emergency vehicles accessible passage through City streets.

If the snow ordinance is put into effect during the overnight hours, consideration will be given to allow citizens time to move their vehicles the next morning.

Every attempt is made to get our streets clear of snow as quickly and safely as possible after a snowstorm. You can help by watching forecasts and moving your vehicle off the street prior to retiring for the evening or departing for work in the morning when snow is expected.

The ordinance news is shared with the local media, at Waukee.org, through City of Waukee social media  on Facebook, X/Twitter and Nextdoor and through text or email alerts through the Alert Iowa program. If it is snowing or roads are snow-covered, but you are unsure of whether the parking ban is effect, it is best to err on the side of caution and avoid parking in the street. 

Violations

If you are issued a citation for not moving your vehicle from the street during a snow ordinance, you will be assessed a fine and your vehicle could be impounded. Please contact the Waukee Police Department at 515-978-7979 if you have questions.
