Unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications can be put into the drug drop box in the lobby of the Public Safety building at 815 NW 20th Street. The lobby is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. except on major holidays.
Syringes, inhalers, and flammable materials cannot be disposed of in the drop box. Visit SafeNeedleDisposal.org to find the nearest facility to drop off sharps.
The Waukee Police Department participates in two Take-Back Days alongside other departments as part of a national effort. Look for notices on our Facebook page and in local publications for the dates, which are usually in April and October.
Some local pharmacies also have a prescription medication disposal drop box, and pharmacists can give you instructions on other disposal methods if needed.
Prescription medicines that stay in home medicine cabinets or cupboards can be misused or abused by accident or on purpose by others. Also flushing old medicines down the toilet can hurt water supplies.
